Prof. Nicla Vassallo (Porto Maurizio-Imperia, 1963) studied philosophy at the University of Genova and at King’s College London – University of London. After receiving her Ph.D. in Philosophy of Science, she was appointed Research Fellow and then Researcher. In 2002 she qualified as Associate Professor of Logic and Philosophy of Science (Idoneità da Professore Associato in Logica e Filosofia della Scienza) at the University of Catania, and then in 2004 as Full Professor of Theoretical Philosophy (Idoneità da Professore Ordinario in Filosofia Teoretica) at the University of Bergamo. From 2003 to 2008 she was Visiting Professor at the University Vita–Salute, Milan, where she lectures on Epistemology in the Psychology Faculty. Since 2005 she has been a Full Professor (Professore Ordinario) in the Department of Philosophy at the University of Genova. She taught Philosophical Propaedeutics, Philosophy of Knowledge and Epistemology. She now teaches Theoretical Philosophy and is part of the teaching staff of the Doctorate.

In recent years Nicla Vassallo has been responsible for seven research projects for the CNR (National Research Council). She has been a Board Member of SIFA (Italian Society for Analytic Philosophy), Book Review Editor for the journal Epistemologia: Rivista Italiana di Filosofia della Scienza, a Member of the Editorial Board of the journals Iride: Filosofia e discussione pubblica, Iris: European Journal of Philosophy and Public Debate, and the on-line dictionary Foldop, a Member of the Scientific Committee of Sapere and of the Scientific Committee of O.N.DA (Osservatorio Nazionale sulla Salute della Donna), a Member of the Board of Referees of CIVR (Committee for Research Evaluation) for VTR (the first Italian Research Evaluation Exercise), a Miur’s referee for “Programma per Giovani Ricercatori – Rita Levi Montalcini” 2010, a Miur’s Referee for VQR (the Evaluation of Universities’ Reaserch Quality), a Miur’s Referee for Futuro in Ricerca 2011, 2012, 2013, a Member of the Scientific Committee of 2–R – The Journal of Philosophical Reviews, OspedaleDonna, and Readings – The Swif’s series of E-books, and a Member of the Board of Directors of Palazzo Ducale’s Fondazione per la Cultura.

She currently is an Affiliated Member of Associazione Festival della scienza, Centro Studi Urbani, CRESA (Center of Research in Experimental and Applied Epistemology), DonneOltre (Associazione Italiana Sclerosi Multipla), and Performance Philosophy. She is a Member of the Advisory Board of the Assemblea of Teatro Stabile di Genova, the European Journal of Analytic Philosophy, the Institute for Scientific Methodology, the journal Iride: Filosofia e discussione pubblica and the journal philinq-Philosophical Inquiries. She is a Member of the Editorial Board of Epistemologia, Rivista italiana di Filosofia della Scienza, Gender, the L&PS: Logic and Philosophy of Science - An Electronic Journal, the on–line journal Nordicum-Mediterraneum, and the on–line journal Rescogitans, a Member of the contributors to the on–line journal Ingenere.it, and of the Project Gecos–Genoa Cognitive Science. She works mainly in the area of Analytic Philosophy. Her primary research and teaching areas are Philosophy of Knowledge and Epistemology. She also has serious research interests in Feminist Philosophies, Gender Studies, History and Philosophy of Logic, Metaphysics, Philosophical Naturalism and Scepticism.

Nicla Vassallo has written more than one hundred and fifty articles in Italian and in English that have appeared in philosophical journals, edited books, conference proceedings, and encyclopedias, and has published twelve books, edited four others, and co–edited eight more. Her latest sole–authored works are Per sentito dire. Conoscenza e testimonianza (Feltrinelli, Milano 2011), Conversazioni (Mimesis Edizioni, Milano 2012), Il matrimonio omosessuale è contro natura: falso! (Laterza, Roma-Bari 2015), and Breve viaggio tra scienza e tecnologia, con etica e donne (Orthotes, Napoli-Salerno 2015);  her latest co–authored works are Piccolo trattato di epistemologia (Codice Edizioni, Torino 2010) and Frege on Thinking and Its Epistemic Significance (Lexington–Rowman & Littlefield 2014). Her most recent edited book is Donna m’apparve (Codice Edizioni, Torino 2009); her most recent co–edited books are Terza cultura (il Saggiatore, Milano 2011) and Reason and Rationality (Ontos Verlag, Frankfurt 2012); her first volume of poems is Orlando in ordine sparso (Mimesis Edizioni, Milano 2013).

She regularly contributes to the cultural pages of various magazines and newspapers, such as Domenica de Il Sole 24 ore e il Venerdì di Repubblica.
